Kaiyukan is one of the largest aquariums in the world locating in the site of Tempozan Harbor Village. The Aquarium has selected 10 regions along the Ring of Fire (Pan Pacific Volcanic Zone), and reproduced their environment in 14 tanks centering on the Pacific Ocean. Visitors encounter approximately 30,000 specimens of 580 species touring around the Aquarium. Kaiyukan is the first aquarium in the world where whale sharks, a spinetail mobula and a manta are simultaneously exhibited.

This area is known from coast to coast as a spot for commemorative photo shoot which frequently appear on TV and magazines. The Tombori River Walk, a promenade along which visitors can stroll while enjoying the familiar cityscape, has been newly constructed. This is a stone-pebbled alley where visitors can enjoy the atmosphere of Osaka as it was in the good old days, even in a bustling downtown area. This alley is lined with restaurants with the friendly atmosphere of the traditional commercial and working-class neighborhoods on both sides of Hozenji temple, where the mossy Mizukake Fudo statue is worshiped. This alley was the setting for “Meoto Zenzai,” a famous novel by Sakunosuke Oda.

When you arrive at Tsuruhashi Station, a wonderful smell of yakiniku “grilled meat” wafts over the area. Along the Tsuruhashi-nishi Shopping Street, which is also called “Yakiniku-dori,” are many Korean barbecue restaurants that look wonderful. Food stores and HanBoK shops are tightly packed in the Korean Market under the railroad bridge. In the Korean Town (along Miyuki-dori), a 15-minute-walk from Tsuruhashi Station, visitors can feel as if they are actually in South Korea, surrounded by authentic Korean barbecue restaurants and Korean food stores.

Higashiosaka City Hanazono Rugby Stadium, initially established in 1929 as the first rugby ground in Japan and now synonymous with the National High School Rugby Football Tournament, is the mecca of rugby.
